Participating in the Quebec FSC Initiative

In this page you will find:

The Initiative's structure

Two forest types

Two sets of standards will be developped for the province: on for the mixed-hardwood forest, and another for the boreal forest, which will merge with Ontario's Great Lakes/St.Lawrence standards and with a boreal national standard, respectively. In order to reduce costs and the number of meetings, there will be a single Steering Committee, under which could work technical and ad hoc committees to resolve particularly challenging issues. The Steering Committee's input on the standards will be submitted to the FSC Canada Working Group.

Distribution of groups within the Steering Committee

See the illustration below

The role of the secretariat

The secretariat will ensure the link between the Steering Committee and the FSC Canada Working Group in Toronto. It will translate and distribute FSC documents and other relevant material. It wll organise and do the follow-up of meetings, laise with the media, answer questions the public may have, and see to the promotion of the FSC label among consumers.

The "snowball" exercise and contacts to date neigeneigeneigeneige

Participants to the information session held in Montreal on november 7th were invited to provide us with the names of people and organisations likely to be interested in the FSC standards development but who had not been contacted yet. These people and groups were in turn asked to do likewise, until no new names were submitted. This process ensures that it is not the coordinators who draw the list of whom to contact. How to join the process

You want to have your say in the development of the standards? Several possibilities exist. If you are with an organisation that can belong to one of the above four chambers, contact us for us to add you to the list. The election of representatives for the Steering Committee will be held in the summer of 2001. You can then participate in this election, as a candidate or as part of the voting assembly. Chamber representatives will be accountable to you and will present your comments and feedback as the standards are developped.

Another way to be involved, especially for individuals and local groups, will be the province-wide consultation on the draft standards, expected for December 2002. Return to this website to stay abreast of the latest developments. This consultation will be advertised here.
