Welcome
to the Quebec FSC Standards Development Initiative website.
The
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has established a forest certification
program applicable worldwide. The two main roles of the FSC are
to accredit third-party verifyers ("certification bodies")
and to endorse regional standards, developped by regional stakeholders,
that respect the FSC Principles
and Criteria.
There
are no FSC standards developped for Quebec yet. Whoever wants
to become FSC-certified must use "generic" standards,
also based on the Principles and Criteria but applicable anywhere
in the world. This is temporary, pending the development of standards
specific to the region (in our case, the province of Quebec).
The Quebec FSC Standards Development Initiative is beginning this
process for the province's two main forest types, the boreal forest
and the mixed-hardwood forest.
This
site is maintained by the Initiative's secretariat, and aims to
inform on FSC activities in Quebec and elsewhere. It contains
links to FSC official documents, explains the role and workplan
of the Quebec Initiative, the avenues possible and costs involved
to attain FSC certification, and more.
We
wish you a pleasant visit!
Information
on the FSC and First Nations Conference can be found at the FSC
Canada website.
